ABSHIRE Betty Abshire, a retired elementary school teacher and sales counselor for Westlawn Cemetery, peacefully departed this life surrounded by her loved ones at her daughter's home on Monday, January 23, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Amelcar "John" Abshire, Sr. for 67 years. Mother of Cathy Toups (Claude), Sandy Duhon (Butsie) and the late Amelcar "Johnny" Abshire, Jr. Daughter of the late Frances Cox Frey and Johnny Olin Stinson. Sister of John O. Frey and Jackie Bartel. Also known as "Grammy" to 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Although Betty was a resident of Marrero, LA for the last 70 years, she retained a special bond with her Texas family, the Cox and the Gaffneys. She will always be remembered for her compassion, generous spirit and selflessness. Her greatest joy in life came from her involvement with her family who adored her. Thanks to Serenity Hospice and the loving care of Ms. Donna Blake. Age 84 years. Betty was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church. Relatives and friends, also employees of Westlawn Cemeteries, The Mothe Group and Immaculata Knights of Columbus Council 4222 are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 9AM until 1PM.
