Hope was born to Alfred Edward Salway and Eva Mary Rowe. Hope had eight siblings: Alfred Edward Charles, Eva Ellen May, John Barlow, Millicent Ada, Harold Alfred, Holman Rowe, Rowe, and Morton Rowe. She came to Canada in September 1920 with her parents and siblings and settled in Cardston, Alberta. She married Lloyd John Purnell on 3 October 1935 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. They had two children. They were later divorced. Hope later married Carl Henrik Munster-Swendsen on 19 June 1946 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They had three children. Hope went to University in her later years and then taught English as a second language for many years. She and Carl were well known for their fabulous garden parties and musical evenings in their home. Children and grandchildren fondly remember Christmas Eve at Grandma and Grandpa's home with lots of music, fun, food, and love.
