Verna Fitzgerald, 97, of Christopher died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at the Parkway Manor in Marion. A funeral service was to be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, officiated by Pastor Jeff Wiggs. Burial will be at the Mulkeytown Cemetery. Visitation was from 9 a.m. Monday until the time
of the service. Verna was born Sept. 20, 1911, in Pinckneyville, the daughter of Joseph and Effie (Shaffer) Crain. She was married to Robert Aden Whaley, and he passed away on Sept. 22, 1992. She then married Melvin Fitzgerald, and
he survives in Christopher. A beautician, Mrs. Fitzgerald attended the Southside Baptist Church in Christopher. She was a member of the Eastern Star. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two stepsons, Dwight Fitzgerald of Taylorsville, N.C., and Rick and Randi Fitzgerald of Orlando, Fla.; a stepdaughter-in-law, Bonnie Fitzgerald of West Frankfort;
grandchildren, Terry and Christine Klusmeyer of Florida, Brent Fitzgerald of Kansas City, Kan., Pam and Steve Lundquist of Louisville, Ky., Mary Katherine Fitzgerald of Asheville, N.C., David Fitzgerald of North Carolina, Ryan and Peggy Fitzgerald of Florida, and Kara and Dave
Deschner of Florida; and great-grandchildren, Victoria Klusmeyer, Michael Klusmeyer, Jacob Lundquist, Ella Lundquist and Desmond Fitzgerald.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one daughter, Margaret Whaley; one stepson, Larry Fitzgerald; four sisters and three brothers.
