1880 Census: Peter Abear (50) born about 1830 in Canada, was widowed and farming in Taylors Falls, Chisago, Minnesota. He had one child: Mary L Abear (14) born about 1866 in Minnesota.

1885 Minnesota State Census: Peter Abear (56) born about 1829 in Canada, was living in Taylors Falls, Chisago, Minnesota. He had one child: Mary (19) born about 1866 in Minnesota.

1895 Minnesota State Census: Peter Abear (66), born about 1829 in Canada, was living in Taylors Falls, Chisago, Minnesota. Occupation - cabinet maker. Living with him was [his daughter] Mary Smith (29) born about 1866 in Minnesota. She had two children: George H (5) and Clyde R (3).

1900 Census: George W Smith (34) born in Pennsylvania April 1866, and Mary L Smith (34) born in Minnesota March 1866, were living with Mary's father, Peter Abear (71) widowed and born in Canada April 1829. Home in 1900 - Taylors Falls, Chisago, Minnesota. Children: George H Smith (10) born in Wisconsin May 1890, and Clyde R (8) born in Minnesota April 1892. Occupations: Peter Abear was a school janitor, and George W Smith was a day laborer. Census indicates George W and Mary L Smith had been married 11 years.

1910 Census: Mary L Smith (44) born about 1866 in Minnesota, was farming in Eland, Beltrami, Minnesota. she is listed as married although her husband doesn't appear on this census. Two adult sons lived with her: George Harrison Smith (20) born about 1890 in Wisconsin, was a farm laborer, and brother, Clyde Smith (18) born about 1892 in Minnesota, was a farm laborer. Also living there was Mary's widowed father - Peter Abear (81) born about 1829 in French Canada.

1920 Census: Clyde R Smith (28) born about 1892 in Minnesota, was farming in Eland, Beltrami, Minnesota. His mother, Mary L Smith (53) was living with him.

1930 Census: Clyde R Smith (37) born about 1892 in Minnesota, was farming in Eland, Beltrami, Minnesota. His mother, Mary L Smith (64) was living with him.

1940 Census: Harry [George H] Smith (49) born about 1891 in Wisconsin, was living in Township 153 Range 30 [Eland], Beltrami, Minnesota. Occupation - laborer [building construction]. He was married to Azilee Smith (33) born about 1907 in Iowa. George's widowed mother lived with them - Mary L Smith (74) born about 1866 in Minnesota.

Parents: Peter Abear (1829-) & Mary Johnson Abear (1841-1868).

Peter Abear was born in Canada East in 1830; came to Stillwater in 1850, but subsequently removed to Taylor's Falls where, in 1855, he was married to Kitty Wickland, who died in 1860, leaving a son, Franklin E., merchant at Anoka. Mr. Abear married again. His second wife died in 1868 [her grave stone says 1864], leaving a daughter, Mary. Mr. Abear married a third wife, who died in 1874, leaving no children. Mr. Abear is a machinist but has given much of his attention to farming.
