As told by her youngest son, Charles...
"Itske Vanderflute met Anna Margaretha Bierma in Pella, Marion county, IA. and they were married in 1875. They became parents of seven children and she died ten days after the birth of her youngest child, Charles.
Before meeting her, my father dreamed he saw my mother in Pella, Iowa and she would be waiting for him when he came. He recognized her on the street.
Anna Bierma, was a talented and educated musician. She led the Reorganized Latter Day Saints Church choir of 37 in Lamoni, IA. She sang and her voice was heard in many places in that day.
Later in my life, the neighbors told me that when my mother and father went to church they rode in a spring buggy with three seats. The children were in the two back seats. When they were driving down the road they would practice singing the songs they would sing in Church that Sunday. Music seemed to run in our family. There always was first, the old-time organ, and later, the piano, in our home.
After her death, my mother always came to my father in a dream when any of the girls were out of place.
No difference how late at night, my father would saddle his little sorrel mare and go see about them.
My father loved Anna Bierma Vanderflute exceedingly. He never associated himself with any other woman after she passed on."
