He was the son of Joseph and Barbara (Redwine) Parker. He married Matilda Martha Maret on May 14, 1835. Their known children were: Mary Elizabeth, William Crosby Davison, Oliver Dougherty, Frances Emaline, Sarah Henrietta and George Pearce Parker.

(The death date on his headstone and the date in the memorial [below] do not agree. It is more likely that the error is in the newspaper article, which is long on hyperbole and short on fact.)

Following is a memorial to Jacob Parker as printed on page 134, "History of Hart County," by John William Baker. Copyright, 1933. (This is more accurately described as a memorial, written sometime after the fact. The actual obituary states only that he died "Saturday, at age 77.")

Obituary of Jacob Parker

Once more the insatiable enemy of the human race has made a demand, and Death's unerring shaft has stricken a husband, father, and a friend.

Jacob Parker, after an illness of two weeks of typhoid fever, passed quietly and peacefully away at 10 o'clock on the morning of the 6th of September, aged 77. He was a member of the Methodist Church 60 years. The first thought that comes crashing in upon us, and absorbs every other, is our loss -our great loss. We look around and find no one to whom we can go for that wise counsel, affectionate sympathy, and liberal aid which he was ever ready to give to those around him.

None ever applied for aid in vain. His heart was ever tender, his ear attentive, his hand ever open to the appeals of religion, of benevolence, and charity. It was a sad hour for this community when his heart ceased to beat, and his hand, that had so long administered to the poor and needy, grew cold and still in death. His place in the family circle and his seat in the sanctuary are vacant; yet we have the consolation that he is "gathered home." How sweet the thought that he has already joined those on the other shore! So, while his death tells us of loss, and reminds us of duty, it also gives brighter hope and stronger faith. Therefore, let us go forward with fresh courage and quickened zeal in the discharge of every duty, so that when life's toils are over our end may be peaceful and happy like his.
