Enrolling in the Ohio State U in 1913, Lester transferred to the U of KY where he studied law, and completed his degree in 1917. He opened a law office in Williamstown, KY shortly thereafter. Taking time out to serve his country during WWI, Lester then continued his law practice until his death. He served as attorney for the city of Williamstown for two years, and later became the County Attorney for Grant Co.
In addition to the law, Lester was a talented singer and poet. His poetry can be read in "Selected Poems of L. M. Ackman," (Lexington, KY, 1970: Transylvania Printing Co.)
