He eventually became the the President of Mississippi Central Railroad and the New Orleans, Jackson and Great Northern Railroad.
Henry died suddenly at the West End Hotel, Philadelphia of a stroke, having stopped there on his way from Wilmington to Newark, New Jersey according to the notice of his death published on 6 Jan 1882 in the Middletown Transcript, Middletown, Delaware.
He was survived by his wife Elizabeth K. Bush McComb, three daughters, Ellen, Jane Elizabeth and Martha, and one son, James Craig McComb.
The town of McComb, Mississippi was founded in 1872 after H. S. Simpson moved the maintenance facilities of the railroad away from New Orleans.
