John Fletcher Caples, one of Oregon's most honored and highly respected citizens died Friday morning at his home in Sellwood. A cousin of John Caples of this city and the father of Robert Caples, Historian of the Democratic National Convention. In 1878 elected district attorney of Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Columbia and Clatsop Counties.

Born in 1832 at Ashland County, Ohio, and came to Vancouver in 1865. For 42 years a member of Taylor Street Methodist Episcopal Church of Portland.

Survived by brother, Henry L. of Chewelah, Washington; and six children: Mrs. W H Saylor, Mrs. M C Matthieu, Mrs. B Lee Paget and Miss Jane Caples of Portland and Mrs. A M Anthoney of Palo Alto, California and Robert A of Gaston, Oregon.
