Lieutenant Colonel David A. DeKrey has sadly lost his battle with Cancer. He died peacefully after being kissed goodbye by loved ones. David was born in Pettibone, North Dakota and spent his youth there as a farmer. After attending the University of North Dakota, he had an adventurous career as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He served terms of duty in both Saudi Arabia and Vietnam. He retired in 1974 from the military. Not one to sit idle, he ventured briefly into a used car business before he decided that he preferred to give flying lessons. He loved to golf, bowl, play games and dance. He was loved by........ and will be missed by many. He leaves behind his daughter, Joni Thibodeaux and her husband Terry, of Gilmer, Texas as well as his sons Dean, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Dennis, of Nicholasville, Kentucky. He has 10 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. He will also be missed by his brothers and their wives, John Edward and Alpha of Pettibone, North Dakota, Donald and Petra of Bemidji, Minnesota, James and Elsie of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Ted and Joan of Pettibone, North Dakota. He is preceded in death by his parents, John DeKrey, Jr. and Hannah Begeman DeKrey, as well as a brother, Fred, and a sister, Betty. He tragically lost two wives, JoAnne Nelson DeKrey, who was the Mother of his children, and Beverly Woodward. The funeral is being held Tuesday, January 24th at 11:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church, followed by a brief Honor Guard ceremony at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean DeKrey, Jim DeKrey, Ted DeKrey, Terry Thibodeaux, Jesse Thibodeaux, Robert Daniel, James Boulter and Norm Evans.
