JAMES MOORE BURIED; Friends Pay Tribute to Memory of Much Esteemed Man

The funeral of James Moore was held yesterday afternoon and a magnificent demonstration was paid his memory by several thousand persons, who remembered with grateful hearts the broadness, kindness and charity of the man who passed away. The turnout of friends was a splendid and fitting tribute to his character. The closing of all places of business along the funeral route from 9:15 until 10:45 o'clock was a testimonial of the esteem in which he was held by his business associates. The number of carriages in line may be estimated from the fact that the hearse was in front of St. Vincent's Church before the last vehicle had left the house on East Main Street, and it was fully three-quarters of an hour before all were seated.

Solemn high mass was celebrated by Rev D.A. Dunne, with Rev. D.W. McCarthy of St. Aloysius Church, Lee Park, deacon; Rev. P.J. Colligan, pastor of St. Vincent's Church, subdeacon; and Dev. Dr. Dioniska of St. Stephen's Church, master of ceremonies. Rev. T.A. O'Malley of Carbondale, a former assistant at St. Vincent's Chirch, and Rev. J.J. O'Donnell of Inkerman, sat inside the chancel rail.

Special music was rendered, the soloist being Mrs. Margaret Collins Lewis of the town, and Prof. James Martin of Wilkes-Barre. At the conclusion of the mass Mrs. Lewis sang "Beautiful Land on High." At St. Vincent's Cemetery, where interment was in the family plot, special services were conducted by the clergymen already named, and Rev. P.J. Colligan gave final benediction. A special honorary delegation from Council No. 984, Knights of Columbus, comprising Peter Dillon, Hugh Tormay, Vincent O'Connell and J. Frank Lee rode in a carriage, while other members of the organization, also those of the Holy Name Society and Division No. 5, A.O.H., walked. The floral offerings included a handsome design, "Gates Ajar," from his brothers, as well as a multitude of others from his family, the relatives and close personal friends, filling two open carriages. Many covered the handsome mahogany casket and others were carried by local undertakers, M.S. Frederick, Harry Davis, Thomas V. Brennan and Walter Piszczek. The pallbearers were W. B. Cleary, Harry Mains, Charles R. Miller, T.F. Heffernan, G.J. Durbin and J.J. Shanley.

The funeral throng was the largest to enter St. Vincent's Church since that of the late pastor, Rev. T. J. Donahue, friends attending from all walks of life and from various sections of the county and state.
