According to his death notice article and memorial article in the 7 December 1910 Adair County News (Columbia, KY), Vestal died about 9 a.m. on 23 November from diphtheria, after 2 weeks of sickness. He was buried the next day, about 3 p.m., on Thanksgiving Day.
As side note, his mother would contract tuberculosis this same year and die nearly two years later, in 1912.
