Obituary:

BALLARD, Herschell R. – Of Linden, age 76, died Friday, October 30, 1998 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 2, 1998 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery with a military graveside service under the auspices of VFW Post #2243, Fenton. Those desiring may make contributions to Genesys Hospice. Visitation 2-9 PM Saturday and 11 AM – 9 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ballard was born in Flint, Michigan on September 19, 1922 and was a resident of the Flint area all of his life, before moving to Linden in 1994. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with Company C 1420 Infantry Regiment. He was a member of UAW Local #599 Retirees, Genesee Valley Walkers Association and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Ballard retired from Buick Motor Division on January 1, 1975.

Surviving are his daughter, Sandy and husband Gar Herronen of Linden; son, Robert Ballard of Flint; very special friend and companion, Agnes Forbes; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marvella and husband Floyd Howe of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Flora Ann; parents, George and Goldie; stepfather, George Harmeier; sister, Betty Jean Harmeier; 3 brothers, Beverly (Bill), Gerald and Darrell.

A special thank you to the staff of Genesys Hospice in Goodrich and visiting home nurses of Hospice.
