Eufrosina ("Rose"), an ethnic Romanian, was a daughter of Leon Pascar and Iftima Ciopei, peasant farmers from Tereblecea, Bucovina. At the time of her birth, Tereblecea was in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but today is in Ukraine, near the city of Chernivtsi (Czernowitz or Cernauti) in the Chernivetska Oblast. On 11 Feb. 1907, Eufrosina married Georgie Jereada, also a peasant farmer of Tereblecea, but he did not live very long. In 1909 or early 1910, Eufrosina remarried to Alecsie Olar. Soon after their marriage, Alecsie and Eufrosina left Bucovina and came to Canada, where they lived until 1912, when they settled in Minnesota. (Rose's first cousin Anna Pascar also came to Canada around those years, then moved to Minnesota and finally Michigan.) Later, Alex and Rose settled in the Chicago suburbs of Melrose Park, Berkeley, and Elmhurst. Rose died at home in Elmhurst, where she is buried. She had 13 children, four of whom died in infancy or were stillborn.

Olar family records are uncertain about the date of Rose's birth, but the parish records of Tereblecea show that she was born in 1887, not 1886 as her gravemarker says.
