Alex Olar (Alecsie Olar), an ethnic Romanian, was a son of Ioan Olar and Alecsandra Toderiuc, peasant farmers of Tereblecea, Bucovina, then in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, today in Ukraine (Tereblecea, today called Terebleche or Porubne, is in the general vicinity of the city of Cernauti or Chernivtsi). Soon after his marriage, Alex came to Canada about 1910, then moved in Minnesota in 1912, ultimately settling with his wife and children in the Chicago suburbs of Melrose Park, Berkeley, and Elmhurst. He died in San Diego, California, and was buried in Elmhurst.
