Mrs. Annie Catherine Black High, 99, of Hamburg died Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Healthsouth Specialty Hospital in Farmerville, Louisiana. Mrs. High was a native of Snyder and a resident of Hamburg and Fountain Hill for most of her life and a former resident of Eloy and Glendale, Arizona for several years. She graduated from Fountain Hill High School in 1932 and Arkansas A&M College with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school in Eloy and Glendale, Arizona; Watson, Strong and Fountain Hill before she retired in 1977. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and she enjoyed gardening, sewing, piecing quilt blocks and traveling to visit family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Franklin High in 1991; two granddaughters, Stephanie Carol High and Whitney Alise Temple; her parents, William Zimmery & Rachel Victoria Burgess Black and a sister, Ethyl Olivia Black Beane. She is survived by seven daughters, Barbara Ann Pogue of Glendale, Arizona, Irene Riley and husband, Billy, of Hamburg, Joyce Pogue and husband, Gene, of Chandler, Arizona, Betty Wright and husband, Robert, of Willow Park, Texas, Flora Mae Byrd and husband, Dennis, Vickie Temple and husband, John, all of Hamburg and Connie Teutsch and husband, Ken, of Clarksville; two sons, Dale High and wife, Judy, of Bossier City, Louisiana and Dewaine High and wife, Mary, of Avondale, Arizona; a sister, Willie Zim Moore of Tucson, Arizona; a brother-in-law, Horace High of Topeka, Kansas; 23 grandchildren, Cathy Godlove, Angie Pogue, Sandy Pogue, Sherri Hilker, Waine High, Rev. Bob Pogue, Glenn Pogue, Becky Farris, Julia Cranford, Beth Kernodle, Gloria Forrest, Danny Wright, Rachelle Wright, Farrah Lightbearer, Chad Higginbotham, Shawn Higginbotham, Carmen Selby, Mitsy Thames, Michael High, Darren High, Jason High, Cassidy High and Rachel Burney; 38 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Bob Pogue officiating. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons.
