Roy William Perry, 85, died on January 23, 2004 following a stroke. He was born in Brookline, Massachusetts to William L. and Nellie Lombard Perry.

Roy served in the US Army from 1939 to 1946 and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic service during a military operation against the enemy in France. For many years following his discharge, he owned and operated Perry Construction Co. in Durham.

For some time after his retirement, he operated Perry Woodcrafts with his wife, making custom furniture and craft items. Roy was a lifelong Catholic and achieved a IV Degree in the Knights of Columbus.

Roy is survived by his wife, Marion Paylor Perry, his daughters, Mary Perry Smith (Roger), Madison, NC, Ann Perry Durham, Durham, NC, and his step-son, Robert G. Terry, Joppa, MD; four grandchildren, Kris Smith Easter (Kelly), Madison, NC, Brandlyn Barnes Broadway (Robbie), Wilson, NC, Perry D. Smith, New York, NY, and Tabatha J. Smith, Wilmington, NC; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Paula Perry, Sacramento, CA, and Phyllis Nuss, Boston, MA, and a brother, Robert L. Perry (Rose), Braintree, MA.

He was predeceased by his parents, six sisters, three brothers, and his first wife, Lucy Terry Perry.
