ATKINS, ERSKIN "ERK", age 78, of Madisonville, passed away Monday evening, January 23, 2012 at Sweetwater Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 5156. Retired from T.V.A. and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid gardener and loved working his booth at Crossroads Flea Market selling produce and other items and making friends. Preceded in death by wife, Willie Muriel McConkey Atkins, parents, John Wallace "Gube" and Ruby Atkins, daughter-in-law, Karen Atkins; sister-in-law, Annie Atkins. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Larry Sylvester, of Athens; son, Randy Atkins and girlfriend, Lisa Harold, of Madisonville; grandchildren, Tiffany and Josh Sylvester, of Athens, Ashley Kirkland, of Madisonville; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Madison Kirkland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Polly and Doug Carter,Frankie and Herbert Ramsey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim Atkins, Ralph and Peggy Atkins, Arthur and June Atkins, Amos and Odesesse Atkins, all of Madisonville; special nieces and nephew, Debbie Wattenbarger, Pam Thomason, Penny Gose, Mike Smith; special pet dog, Joe. The family thanks paramedic Steve Kincaid and Sweetwater Hospital for their kindness. Funeral 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Biereley-Hale Chapel. Interment 11:00 a.m. Thursday, McClellan Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 5156 and DAV Chapter 93.
