Farmer Killed in Runaway
The News (Frederick, MD) May 17, 1916

John B. Byrd, a farmer near Dawsonville, Montgomery county, was killed when a six-horse team he was driving ran away. The saddle horse fell and Mr. Byrd was thrown against a stone on the side of the road, crushing his skull.

The saddle horse was dragged two or three hundred yards and was killed. John Hebron, colored, who was on the wagon, sustained painful injuries.

Mr. Byrd had been to the railroad station at Boyds with a load of produce and was on his way back home when the accident occurred. His team took fright at a colt in a field alongside the road.

He was 39 years old, and son of the late John B. Byrd. He is survived by his mother, three brothers, and four sisters.
