"Retired Merchant of Beech Creek Dies at His Home
BEECH CREEK--John Wesley Waite died at 11 a.m. this morning at his home here. A retired merchant, he had conducted a general and confectionery store here for about 50 years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Fannie Lyons, five sons and two daughters, Forrest of Warren; Harvey of Blanchard; Raymond of Orviston; Edward of Baltimore and Lee of this place; Mrs. Maire Scarr of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Miss Mildred, at home; also 18 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. BEECH CREEK--The funeral of John W. Waite at the Bechdel Funeral Home last evening was largely attended by relatives, neighbors and friends. The service was conducted by the Rev. Roy A. Goss, pastor of the Methodist Church. Interment was in the Clark Cemetery. The casket-bearers were Bert J. Confer, Robert E. Murray, Frank A. Johnson, Charles P. Lindsey, Russell J. Linn, Thomas Winslow, Herbert Harpster and Charles Hunter. Honorary pass-bearers were Lester H. Stephens. I. J. Rohrbaugh, H. Edward Cox, A. B. Brady, John H. Hunter and George F. Hess.
He was born in Beech Creek Township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Waite, and lived in the community all of his life, in the early years of which he identified himself with the Methodist Church. For almost half a century he conducted a general store, retiring from business about three years ago. He loved sports and was a top-notch fisherman and hunter."

Omitted from the published names of surviving children are four sisters: Mrs. Mahalia Ritter of Jersey Shore; Mrs. Minnie Scarem and Mrs. Alice Frymire, Williamsport, and Mrs. Bertha DeLong of Ridgway.

The book "HISTORY OF THE BEECH CREEK AREA OF CLINTON COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA BY HARRY A. AND VERA A. LINGLE CENTRE COUNTY LIBRARY BELLEFONTE PENNA. 1881" has in it records that John W. Waite married first Sarah A. DELONG and then Fannie LYONS.

Clearly John Wesley Waite had many children!
In the above history of Beech Creek, it is noted in the year 1900, according to census records, "our area had a population of 972, with 525 in our township and 447 in our borough. Of that total only twenty three are known to be still living. Of these just four reside here now. ... The following still live in our broad general area: "...[Mrs] Marie Leeuwerick, daughter of John W. and Sarah (DeLong) Waite, ..." Daughter Marie is noted in the 1900 census as "Vergie M" and in the 1910 c. as Marie V Waite. Note that poster can not verify the surname Leeuwerick for Marie's husband.
