Henry L. "Hank" Berlie, 83, of Grand Island died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Hank was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Kensington, Kan., to David John and Rena Belle (Borland) Berlie.

Hank was preceded in death by: wife, Beverly, and son, Michael "Mike" Berlie.

Survivors are: son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Barb Berlie of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Rory Djernes of Grand Island; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Tom Darlington of Scottsbluff and Helen and Richard McCracken of Kansas.

Hank grew up in Bloomington and received his education in Franklin.

He entered the United States Navy on Dec. 28, 1950 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 7, 1954.

Hank was united in marriage to Beverly Mucklow on March 16, 1952, in Franklin.

The couple lived in San Diego for a year and half while he served in the Navy. Following his discharge, they returned to Franklin. In 1960, they moved to Spalding, where he was the yard manager for SE Smith and Sons Lumber Yard. In 1970, they moved to Grand Island where he worked for Speltz-Schultz Lumber for a short time before starting Berlie Construction.

Beverly preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 2002.

Hank and Beverly loved to fish together and he also enjoyed hunting and woodworking. He was a square dance caller for years throughout Nebraska and neighboring states.

Hank was also preceded in death by: parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Burial was in the Cedarview Cemetery, Doniphan, NE.
