Civil War-Company I, 3rd Michigan Cavalry
William Dunham was born in Vermont in 1824. He came to Grand Rapids, Michigan where he married and resided for several years. Later he moved to Fenton and then to Manistee where he lived for fourteen years. During that time he held the Offices of County Clerk and Register of Deeds. Later, he entered the banking business. Later he returned to Grand Rapids and organized the Fifth National Bank. He was president for four years. Later he became the President of the Dean Printing Company and served in that capaciy for six years.
In 1861 he went to the front as a Captain in the Third Michigan Cavalry.
