John Ijams was a carpenter by trade and he was one of Baltimore City's Old Defenders.

On Sunday evening, 31st August, JOHN IJAMS, in the 91st year of his age. The friends of the family and members of the Old Defender's Association are respectfully invited to attend his funeral, from his late residence, No. 180 Mulberry street, this (Tuesday) afternoon, 2nd inst., at two o'clock. [No flowers.]

The funeral of Mr. John Ijams, marshal of the Old Defenders' Association, took place yesterday afternoon, from his late residence, No. 180 Mulberry street. The remains were inclosed in a walnut casket with silver mountings, and a plate with an inscription recording the name and date of birth and death of the deceased. Rev. J. H. Lemon, of the Exeter Street M. E. Church officiated. The active pall-bearers were Dr. J. T. King, Alfred Ijams, W. H. Ijams, Jr., Dr. G. Ijams, Enoch Holden and A. T. Drury. The honorary pall-bearers were Col. Nicholas Brewer, Capt. John I. Daneker, Samuel Jennings and Wm. Stites, of the Old Defenders' Association. Other old defenders in attendance were A. Jarrett, James Morford and Henry Lightner. The interment took place at Loudon Park Cemetery.
