Stella M. Kinzer, 91, a lifelong Uniontown and Colton resident, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at the Memory Villas at Bishop Place in Pullman.

Stella was born March 1, 1919, in Uniontown, the fifth of 10 children born to Joseph and Mary Tushoff Wittman. She grew up in Uniontown and attended St. Boniface Academy, following which Stella moved to Spokane, where she worked for a time. She later returned to Uniontown to help care for her father.

Stella married Luke Kinzer on Feb. 23, 1946, in Uniontown, where together they farmed and raised their family. They retired after 30 years of farming and moved to Colton, where she made her home until moving to Bishop Place in Pullman in 2008.

Stella was a member of both St. Boniface and St. Gall parishes in Colton, St. Boniface Altar Society, and co-chaired the St. Boniface Church Bazaar with Darlene Krick for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was instrumental in organizing the Legion Poppy Sales and the Poppy Poster Contest that honors veterans.

Stella will be remembered for her inspired cooking skills, her abilities in gardening and being a talented seamstress and quilter. She enjoyed traveling with Luke in their retirement years, and following his death in 1990, she continued her travels covering all of the 50 states, Mexico, the Caribbean and significant portions of North America. Stella was a friend to all and had a sweet disposition, always finding the positive things in life.

She is survived by (left out for privacy reasons); as well as her dog, Buddy.

In addition to her husband Luke, Stella was preceded in death by a son, Neil Kinzer, in 1972; sisters Irene, Birdie, Marie, Alice and Hazel, and two brothers, Ed and Robert.

The viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. The rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Uniontown, followed by the celebration of funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Vault interment will follow at the Uniontown Catholic Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Gritman Adult Day Care and the staff at Bishop Place in Pullman for their compassionate care for Stella.
