41st Michigan Governor. Served as Governor of the State of Michigan for six terms, from 1949 to 1960. Also served as Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice 1983-1986. Williams died in a Detroit hospital Feb. 2, 1988 at 76. His body was entombed in a temporary crypt at Evergreen Cemetery in Detroit until it could be buried on Mackinac Island after winter. Born and died in Detroit, Wayne County Michigan. He appeared on the cover of Time Magazine on September 15, 1952.
