Billy Jack Proffitt, age 69, of 400 Eastridge Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Butler, Tennessee, he was born August 22, 1934 to the late Stacy and Pearl South Proffitt. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by three brothers, Monroe, Loyd and Claude Proffitt; three sisters, Emma Jean Issacs, Pauline Robinson and Mary Dugger and one grandson, Darrick Ray Dunn. Billy was a former employee of Burlington Industries. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of Dyson Grove Baptist Church. Billy was an Army Veteran having served in Korea.

Billy is survived by two daughters; Marcella Dunn and Husband Bob of Mountain City and Angie Taylor and Husband Tim of Elizabethton; one son, Jackie Proffitt of Mountain City; two sisters, Ruby Proffitt of West Grove, Pennsylvania and Ann Marrangelli of Mandenhall, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Larry Proffitt of Mountain City and Clifton Proffitt of Hampton; two grandchildren, Tralaina Mains of Mountain City and Josh Taylor of Elizabethton; one great grandchild, Brianna Mains of Mountain City and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Billy will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Emert and Rev. Frank Woods to officiate.
Military Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004 from the Proffitt Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be: David Proffitt, Jerry Campbell, Tim Taylor, Bob Dunn and Kevin Proffitt.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Ricky Isaacs, Berry Dugger, Darrell Proffitt, Randy Robinson, Gary Robinson, Kenneth Robinson, Don Marrongelli, Zeek Zunino and the Staff of the Mountain Home VA Medical Center Nursing Home.
Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home prior to Services.
At other times, friends may call at the residence.
Family and Friends are asked to assemble at the Proffitt Cemetery on Tuesday by 10:45 for Graveside Services.
