Her Oldest brother's was William Houston Gregory. He was four years older than her. Her Older Sister was Mattie Martha Jane Gregory. She was two years older than Ollie. Her younger younger brother (Verdo Agustus Gregory died when he was 2 or 3 months old.
her mother died when Verdo was born, and she was 2 or 3 years old. Her mother died in Grand Saline TX and is buried in the Cregerville Cemetery.
Ollie didn't live with her father much after her mother died. Her uncles were more like a father to her.
She lived with her grandpa Isaac Simpson Gregory after her mother died. Her Grandpa fought in the Civil War for Alabama (Company D, 2nd Alabama Calvery). He was injured and her grandmother received his pension after he died. Her Grandfather owned a plantation in Alabama. Her Grandmother Jane Ferguson's parents were opposed to her marring Grandpa Gregory because of his Indian blood Grandma (Jane Ferguson) moved to Alabama with Isaac Gregory after they were married.
Grandpa Gregory was a Southern Methodist Church member. He was a good singer and a deacon in the church. He had to give up his church work due to a heart condition. Her grandma used to give my grandpa brandy every time he had a heart attack, and this had to be ordered from the store as medicine because Texas was a dry state. Her grandpa died in 1904 ( May 16, 1904) in Prosper Texas of a heart attack. Her grandma Gregory died in 1904, one year after she was married.
One of grandpa Gregory's brother's was Eugene Gregory. He was the first merchant in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a big guy who built a 16 room house in Birminghan and he was very rich. One time he went to a soldiers reunion in a pullman. He was older than Ollie's Grandpa one other brother's name was Will Gregory. Grandpa and Grandma Gregory had four children: Uncle Will ( William) was a Doctor, Uncle Gus ( Robert Agustus ) was a teacher before he moved to Texas, Uncle ( Andrew) Boyd, and my father Frank Milton Gregory.
Ollie lived with her Uncle Gus Gregory in Rheas Mill,ten miles North west, directly east of Prosper) McKinney. Uncle Gus was a store owner, Postmaster, and a school teacher. He had moved to Texas from Alabama after the Civil War. Uncle Gus would never sell tobacco in his store, and coffee was never served in his house.
"Uncle Gus taught me to count money when I was small, and he also taught me to read. I was an avid reader, and could memorize things easily. I was advanced over the other kids in school because I went nine months out of the year. I used to have to walk to school through deep black mud in the wintertime in Collin county Texas."
"When I was living with my Uncle Gus in RjeaMill, my Uncle Walter sold his store and moved to Prosper. He bought two lots there and opened a store. My Uncle Walter's wife was Annie Greenwood. Her family had a large farm, and Grandpa Gregory didn't want me to go to their farm.
All of the family members bought 160 acres each in Texas.Uncle Walter's wife's family bought 640 acres. "

Our whole family lived in a tent in Hemet California picking fruit until Lottie was out of the hospital. Lottie spent two weeks in the Riverside hospital. Then she had a Kidney stone attack two weeks later and she went to Highland Hospital in Oakland, California. I have been there ever since."
