Karen Ann Head, age 69, loving, mother, grandmother, great grandmother & fiancé, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.
Karen Ann (Wood) Head was born on September 3, 1942 in Wellington, KS to Duane Waymoth Wood and Josephine (Box) Wood.
She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, baking, cooking for and taking care of others. She also enjoyed bingo and going to the casino. She kept busy with the Tenants Association at the Wheat Capital Manor and served as President for several years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Calvin Head; one brother, Glenn Wood and one brother in law, Kenneth Gifford.
Survivors include her loving companion, David Simon of Wellington, KS; one son, Donald Davis and his wife Jennifer of Wellington, KS; three daughters, Wendy Tuck and her husband Steven of Wellington, KS, Donna Miller and her husband Eric of Des Moines, IA, and Lori Castaneda and her fiancé Bill Nugen of Wellington, KS; two brothers, Carroll Wood and his wife of Derby, KS and Leroy Wood and his wife Ophelia of Belle Plaine, KS; two sisters, Barbara Gifford of Wellington, KS and Pam Griffin and her husband Doug of Haysville, KS; 15 grandchildren, Alicia, Ryan, Jade, Brandi, Brad, Jason, Bret, Sean, Luke, Andy, Mike, Sean, Sydney, Aubree & Cherrelle; and 7 great grandchildren, Chloe, Drue, Amburlie, Rylan, Maverick, Cadence and Tristan; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church in Wellington, KS on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. Pastor Don Bryant will officiate. Interment will follow at Austin Cemetery in Anson, KS.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 9:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas and Wheat Capital Manor Tenants Association.
