Son of Willie and Floretta (Young) Newman.
Executed for the murder of Sid Cook, who was attacking Claude's wife.
While on death row, received a Miraculous Medal from another prisoner which he placed around his neck, That evening he had a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He converted to the Catholic Faith. Several months after his execution, in May 1944, while another prisoner (James Hughes) who hated Claude was seated in the electric chair, James had a vision of Claude with the Blessed Mother standing behind him with Her hands on his shoulders.
