Frontier peace officer. Webb, a former Texas Ranger, was a deputy sheriff of Brown County, Texas when he was shot and killed in the line of duty by the notorious outlaw John Wesley Hardin. Hardin served a lengthy prison sentence for the murder. Deputy Sheriff Webb is memorialized at Panel 11, E-7 on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.
