Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Newton. Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Father Joseph Molloy and Father David Braun celebrating mass. Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Newton.
Mrs. Smithenry was born on October 11, 1916, in Jasper County, the daughter of James and Lillie (Trainor) Benefiel. She married Loraine J. Smithenry on September 22, 1936. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1991.
She was a housewife and loving mother. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Altar Society, Women of the Moose and Jasper Post #20 American Legion Auxiliary of Newton.
Mrs. Smithenry is survived by five sons, Michael Smithenry and his wife, Betty, Edwin Smithenry and his
wife, Marilyn, Robert Smithenry and his wife, Stella, and Paul Smithenry, all of Newton, and Donald Smithenry and his wife, Kathy, of Springfield; three daughters, Jean Weber and her husband, William, of Ingraham, Judy Kessler and her husband, Carl of Dundas and Carol Kessler and her husband, Steve of Hoyleton; and 38 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 46 great-grand children and six step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, five brothers and four sisters.
Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Memorial Fund.
