Carl J. Schwedler received a bachelor's degree in education from Western State Teachers College, now known as Western Michigan University. He received a masters in education from the University of Michigan and did post graduate work at Wayne State University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe with the U.S. Army with the rank of master sergeant.
He was a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent of Port Austin Schools. He was superintendent of Fort Gratiot Schools before becoming an administrator with the Port Huron Area School District. Later when St. Clair County Community College spun out of the area school district, Mr. Schwedler became Dean of administrative affairs, a position he held until his retirement in 1981.
He also served on the boards of Mercy Hospital and Catholic Social Services.
