Martyr of the Catholic Church. Saint of Andalusian origin venerated by Christians, born in the third century. According to documents dating back to the 10th century AD, he, presumably with his sister Victoria, was beheaded in Cordoba in 304. His canonization "coram populi" derives from the legend according to which he was subjected to torture, attempted drowning and then introduced into a burning ditch by order of the Roman governor Dion. He came out unscathed praising Christ but the uncontrolled fire killed many spectators and bystanders. There is a reliquary of Saint Acisclus kept in the Basilica of Saint-Sernin in Toulouse.
