Mr. Oscar Alvin Keene, 73, of Nahunta, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, in St. Vincent's Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fla., following a brief illness.

A native of Brantley County, he worked in constuction as a welder/carpenter. He was a member of the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Patterson, and also served in the Army.

His parents were Oscar Alex Keene and Sarah Catherine Parrott Keene. He is preceded in death by four sisters, Demita Pierce, Ruby Highsmith, Vernice Lee and Charlotte Mosley; and brother, Bud Keene. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Ruby Howard Keene, of Nahunta; two daughters, Beverly Jeanne Kilcrese (Mickey), Brantley, Al and Joyce Sundberg (Ed), Waynesville, N.C.; a son, Lonnie Higginbotham (Joyce), Sanderson, FL.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Emmie Walker, Nahunta, and Nell Wright, Brunswick.

Visitation was at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, at the Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Chambless Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder Alvin Johnson, Elder Tolley Lee and Elder Ardle Lightsey officiating. Burial followed in the Smyrna Cemetery, Lulation Community.
