Mary A. Cotner, age 88, resident of Logansport, passed away Friday, January 20th at "The Woodlands" in Farmville, VA, where her daughter Valerie resides. Mary was able to spend this last Christmas with most of her family, including some of her great-grandchildren. She was born in 1923 in Bolton, Lancashire, England to Mary (Macken) and Thomas Ashcroft. Mary met and married Charles L. Cotner while he was stationed in England with the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mary proudly became a citizen of the United States.

She was preceded in death by husband Charles, her sister Eleanor Shelmerdine and her brother, Thomas Ashcroft. She is survived by three children, Valerie Montgomery (husband Michael) of Farmville, Virginia, Veronica Blann (husband Dennis) of West Lafayette, IN, Kevin Cotner (fiancée Ledia Flores) of San Diego, CA, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mary has extended family in the UK and Australia, including a dear sister in-law, Joan Ashcroft, in the UK.

Mary was active in local government, political and civic endeavors in her hometown of Logansport, including serving 4 years as the Cass County Deputy Clerk, 4 terms on the Logansport City Council, a term on the Logansport School Corporation Board, the Area IV Council on Aging Board, and several committees. She was a candidate for Mayor of Logansport.

Mary enjoyed traveling, reading and collecting antiques, but her greatest pleasure was being with her family and she was dearly loved in return.

Visitation will be from 3-7pm Friday, January 27 at Kroeger Funeral Home in Logansport with services held there Saturday at 10am on January 28. Interment beside her beloved husband Charles will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to A Cause for Paws at P.O. Box 1402, Logansport, IN 46947 or given at their booth at the Logansport Mall on Saturdays 11-5 pm.

Kroeger Funeral Home, Logansport, is in charge of arrangements.
