Military Records Summary
Henry Adam Wensil voluntarily enlisted in Company A, 20th North Carolina Infantry on the 19th of March 1862 at Concord, North Carolina as a Private. He participated in the battles of Cold Harbor, Malvern Hill, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. He was listed as missing following battle in September of 1862 near or at South Mountain, Maryland. He was taken prisoner there and held in Union custody and exchanged in October of 1862 at Akiens Landing Virginia. He was hospitalized in Richmond shortly after his release from Union custody and returned to full duty after recovery. In his continued service he was also wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863 but no records of his hospitalization are available. He remained in faithful service to the CSA until the end of the war where he took the oath of alligence to the United States of American on 24th of April 1865 at Farmville, Virginia. He was mustered out of service to the CSA on that same date and returned back to North Carolina.
