Mr. Sunderland was born April 15, 1914, in Milton, N.D., where he attended school and was self-employed hauling freight. On Nov. 24, 1937, he married Iva Hanson. They lived in Milton. He owned R.D. Sunderland and Sons Construction for more than 40 years. They retired in 1978.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Don (Phyllis), David (Marlys), Tom (Diane); a sister, Kathleen, Bismarck; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday from 3 to 4:30 in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.
Funeral: Thursday at 2 in First Presbyterian Church, Fargo.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
