Max Gordon Huffman, age 79, of Versailles, went to meet his Savior on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 5:14 A.M. at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Max was born on August 11, 1929 in Randolph County, Indiana, to the late Merle & Edith (Alexander) Huffman.

Max graduated from Lincoln High School in Randolph County, Indiana in 1947. He retired from Dinner Bell in Troy. Max served in the United States Army. He was also a driver for the Darke County V.A. for 10 years, and served 4,000 hours as a volunteer at the Dayton V.A. Hospital. Max was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles, where he served on the church council. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 435 and Past President of the Versailles F.O.E. 2347, where he held all offices in District 15. Max was a member of the Versailles Village Council; a volunteer fireman; an auxiliary policeman; and a Boy Scout Leader.

In addition to his parents, Max is also preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbur, Ora, Ernie and Gerald; and sisters, Agnes Smock, Helen Luellen and Wanda Holt Orne.

He is survived by his wife, Alice (Kueterman) Huffman, whom he married on June 23, 1953.

He is also survived by his daughters & sons-in-law, Dixie & Jim Stephens of Somerset, Kentucky and Roberta & Dan Stahl of Washington Court House; sons & daughters-in-law, Ed & Diane Huffman of Greenville and Jim & Melanie Huffman of Versailles; grandchildren, Jance Stephens, Abby, Bethany, and Catherine Stahl, Mindy & Jason Stebbins, and Morgan, Taylor, and Bailey Huffman; great-granddaughter, Gabriella Stebbins; brother, Herb Huffman and friend, Elaine Ruth of Ridgeville, Indiana; brother & sister-in-law, Dick & Rita Kueterman of Russia, Ohio; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church 204 East Wood Street Versailles, with Rev. Keith Falk officiating.

Burial in Brock Cemetery, Brock, Ohio, will be at the convenience of the family.
