Ama was first married to Sgt. Philip Owens. She was taking her final exam at school when she received a telegram telling her he had been killed in Germany. She later married Arvis Ray Holt, an army veteran who was captured by the Germans in North Africa in Feb. of 1943 and held as a POW until Germany surrendered in May of 1945.
