(From the Opelousas Courier, Opelousas, LA Dec. 5,1874 edition) Lawrence Mathews, an old citizen of Overton county, Tennessee, was struck by lightning about noon on the 11th, and instantly killed. He had just finished his dinner and passed into an adjoining room. The lightning set fire to the house, but the family succeeded in extinguishing it.
