Marvel E. (Dupont) Smith, age 95, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, surrounded by her family, at Sienna Cress Assisted Living Oregon.

Marvel was born on Nov. 5, 1914, in Minnesota's Red Lake County, the daughter of James and Ella (Gasrske) Noyes. She completed elementary education at District 14, a country school. Because the area had no bus service, she attended her first three years of high school at the Northwest School of Agriculture at Crookston, a branch of the University of Minnesota. She graduated from Erskine High School in 1932.

Marvel worked in retail, and for 20 years, at the Wisconsin School for Girls, Oregon, where she was a senior counselor. In 1933, she married Walter J. Dupont. They farmed near Terrebonne until 1950, when they moved to a farm near Oregon, until his sudden death in 1955.

Their five children survive, Joan Sanstadt, Carol (Phil) Peterson, Clark (LuAnne) Dupont, Diane (Ray Zit) Titus and Douglas (Nancy) Dupont. In 1957, Marvel married Vernard Smith and moved to S. Syene Road, Madison. He died on April 13, 1976. In addition to her five children, she is survived by 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by Steve and Patti Anderson and their three children; a niece and nephew; and several cousins, including a special cousin, Hazel Perras of Red Lake Falls, Minn.

Preceding her in death were her parents; both spouses; her sister, Marcella Champagne; and several cousins.
