In 1933 when Kathleen P. Jones copied the John Drake Cemetery, Garth Rd., Huntsville, Alabama census, James Drakes stone was broken and hard to decipher. She was able to make out this much of it. "James Drake who was born in Botetourt County, Virginia, April 30th, 1780, and died Madison.........."

Mr. Drake moved from Botetourt County, Virginia, and settled himself within a few miles of this place in the year 1808.
