US Revolutionary War patriot. Hopkins was a lawyer who abandoned his law practice & joined the Army as a 1st Lieutenant. He served at the Battle of Bunker Hill, Peaksville & White Plains. He bacame a NY state senator & then rejoined the Army as a Brigadier General. He settled in Edwardsville in 1918 & opened a practice near the Edwardsville Land Office.
