Madeline Henriette Doom Kuhnke, 93, died January 20th in the comfort of her LaSalle home, where she had lived for 55 years. Her beloved grandson, Jimmy, had lived with her most recently and was with her at the time of her death.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rupp Funeral Home. The Rev. Lawrence Detruf, pastor of the First Church of God, will officiate. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

Madeline was born April 1, 1918 in Marshall, Minnesota; she was the daughter of Cyril and Julia (Philipp) Doom. She married Vernon W. Kuhnke November 7, 1942 in St. John Catholic Church, Monroe. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1997.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Erie.

Madeline was blessed with good health and a close family all of her life. She traveled frequently with her daughter Mary Kay and regularly visited her children that live outside of the Monroe area. Before her husband's death they spent the summer months in Curtis, Michigan. Besides her family and travel she enjoyed cooking and conversing with her long time friends. She was a kind and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Her sense of humor brought many laughs to those lucky enough to be in her company. She will be sadly missed but always remembered.

She is survived by two sons; Larry V. (Christy) Kuhnke of Traverse City, Gary L. Kuhnke of Livermore, California; two daughters, Mary K. (James) Pauli of Monroe, Valerie D. (Richard) Biederbeck of Phoenix, Arizona; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry A. Bohjanen in 1983, three brothers, Henry, Charlie and Gus Doom; three sisters, Helen VanBelle, Alice O'Neil and Mary McCall.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe County Humane Society 833 N. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, MI 48162 or St. Joseph Church, Erie.
