Funeral Services for Walter G. Mason Held Yesterday
Manchester, Sept. 23 -- The funeral services of Walter G. Mason were held from the family residence at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Rev. J. C. Glover of Canisteo officiating. The services were short but impressive. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
Mr. Mason died Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock, after an illness of two weeks. He was born in Farmington, February 5, 1846, and was the son of the late Gardner and Miranda Mason. After his marriage to Miss Mary E. Sheffield in Manchester in 1869 he settled in Farmington on a farm which he occupied until 1883 when he came to this village and located in upper Main street. In 1885 he purchased the Manchester flouring mills which he operated for nearly fifteen years.
Mr. Mason was prominent in village affairs and interested in educational matters. He was chairman of the building committee that erected the Manchester High School in 1892. He leaves his wife, Mary E. Mason, one son, Clinton W. Mason, two daughters, Maud C. Mason and Mrs. C. Wilkins Pratt; one granddaughter, Kenneth G. Pratt and one brother, Samuel R. Mason of Palmyra, besides several nieces and nephews.
The burial was in South Farmington Cemetery.
