Rev. David Mitchell passed away at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the age of 68 years. David was the son of Willie Mitchell & Alice (Grayson), born on December 2, 1943 at Pierce, Oklahoma. He was brought up in Weleetka, Holdenville and Lamar, and attended Weleetka schools. He worked in construction for many years as a heavy equipment operator. In the 1980s he worked several years for the City of Holdenville, then returned to construction work until his health failed and he was physically unable to continue. David was ordained a Baptist minister in 1992, and that same year became pastor of Tulmochussee Indian Baptist Church at Lamar, where he served until he was no longer able, and retired in December of 2011. David enjoyed squirrel hunting in his younger years, and when he was older enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing dominoes, and watching western or war movies on television. Most of all, he loved spoiling his grandson. He was a dedicated family man and friend, and he will be sorely missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Mitchell and Alice Wolf, and by an infant son. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; three children: Amanda Rutland and husband Tony, of Cromwell, Oklahoma, Alicia Mitchell and Timothy Mitchell, both of the home; one grandson, Xander Rutland; numerous other relatives, and many friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 23, 2:00 p.m. at Middlecreek #2 Baptist Church west of Holdenville. Wake service was held on Sunday, January 22, 7:00 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home's Lillye Chapel. Interment will be in the Holdenville Cemetery. Following services, the family gathered at the Holdenville Community Center.
