Joseph immigrated from Bavaria to Washington Co., WI between 1848 and 1856 with his wife, Anna Maria, and two daughters, Anna Maria and Walburga. The others of his children, Peter, Joseph, John and Franzesca were born in Barton. He was a farmer in Barton, but the closest PO was listed as Kewascum in the 1870 census. He is believed to be buried in St. Mary's as others of his family are according to the FHC film of St. Mary's records. His body was probably moved from Ancient St. Mary's on Woodford (sometimes still called Old St. Mary's on maps), as many were, because the original St. Mary's was too damp in the Spring, according to a gt. gt. granddaughter, who lives nearby.
