Michael William Connaughton died of heart failure July 8, 2008, at his home in East Wakefield, N.H., after a courageous and life-long battle with diabetes.

Michael was the second son of Jane Connaughton and the late Robert J. Connaughton Sr. of Lynn, Mass. Michael graduated from Saugus High School and received his bachelor of science degree from Broward Community College.

He was a devoted father of Patrick, his wife, Tara, and Petey, 'The Great.' A loving uncle to Christopher, Colt, Dalton, Daniel, Ellen, Jared, Timothy, Maddison, Mary Beth and Melissa. Dear brother to Patti, Robert and his wife, Linda, David and his wife, Ruth, Neal and his wife, Susan, Anne and her husband, Bernie. Nephew to Margaret Devlin and Audrey Thompson. Michael is also survived by his close cousin, Kim, and her husband, Jackson, as well as several other cousins across New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Michael lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., for 25 years, where he met his wife of 23 years, Sandra Lake of Wenham, Mass. There, they opened a coffee shop together on Las Olas Boulevard and owned a construction business. Michael had a passion for life-long learning and at the age of 34, returned to school, completed medical training and worked internationally as an air ambulance crew member.

After retirement, Michael moved to East Wakefield, where he enjoyed his greatest passions: family, dogs, cooking, the outdoors and motorcycles. In New Hampshire, Michael spent the last seven years re-establishing close family ties, breeding and training American bulldogs, fishing, riding his Triumph and preparing feasts for his family.

On July 20 at 1:30 p.m., Michael's ashes will be placed in the Lovell Lake Cemetery Connaughton family plot in Sanbornville, N.H. A gathering of family and friends will attend to speak a few words to honor Michael's life.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Joslin Diabetes Center High Hopes Fund may be made. Visit the online guest book at www.fosters.com/obits Published in Fosters from July 16 to July 17, 2008
