Mother of Ora D. Hicks, Rosa D. Hicks Canham, Thomas Patterson Shoemaker and Carl Hines. Daughter of Eli and Ann Sands Thomas. Granddaughter of Benjamin and Margery Barker Sands and Henley and Mary Ann Hunt Thomas. Sister of Anderson Thomas (FAG #140297802). Half sister to Elmer Elsworth (FAG #111925295), Eli Willis (FAG #132714777), Mary Beth, Frank W. (FAG #78848188) and Jewell Bell Thomas Fisher (FAG #102266798). The last four remained in the Republic Co., KS, area, where they either died or were raised/adopted by Persinger families. Their mother was Barbara Willis, died 1876 Republic Co., KS. Eli, Amelia, Anderson and Elmer Elsworth returned to Boone Co., IN, by 1878 where Amelia married Andrew J. Hicks. Eli, Anderson and Elmer Elsworth along with Eli's brother, Henley Thomas, went on to Lee Co., Iowa, where they were enumerated in the 1880 census as was Eli and Henley's brother, James Thomas and family. Their sister, Lydia Thomas (Josiah) Pearson and family were in Henry Co., IA. The Thomas, Barker, Hunt, Hicks and Sands families were Quakers. Amelia Thomas Hicks married W.P. Shoemaker on 11/18/1885, St. Charles Co., MO. Amelia Thomas Hicks Shoemaker Hines Smith married Joseph R. Hill on 7/4/1898, Madison Co., IL. Amelia then married an unknown Rowe.
