"George Thompson died December 28, 1863 and was 58 years old at the time of his death. The obituary shown here is not his.
"The tombstone was apparently placed many years after his death and the death of his daughter, Charlotte (Thompson) Stein. Most likely, whoever placed the stone wasn't positive about the date of death and probably asked the folks at Congressional and the name of this younger George Thompson, who died within a few weeks of the older George popped up, and was used.
"George Thompson was born ca1805 in St. Mary's County where he lived until at least 1860 when he moved his family to Washington, D.C."
